Simple Customization

Components

Components are snippets of code used by all themes.  Such things as your chapter meeting location, your calendar, your chapter name, etc.  They do not change if your theme changes.

To edit, click on the Theme tab.  Pick the Components tab in the menu on the right.  Now you can edit your components.  Copy/paste is by far the best way to edit these.  Or in the case of the TeamUp calendar, just changing the calendar id.

A component is used for the content of the sidebar menu.  This needs to be valid HTML.  Some chapters put things like newsletter signups and news feeds into the sidebar.  Some work, some don't.  When they don't it is usually because somebody put something too wide for the sidebar into it.  If that is the case, put it onto its own page and not in the sidebar.

Theme Customization

Each theme has a customization form.  This is for information unique to the theme (with one exception).  This is a plugin, so if you are changing themes, you need to turn on the plugin -- it will have the name of the theme.

Here you will find places for text and background colors, and home page images.  These vary greatly in length and complexity based on the theme.

Read the information on uploading and using images (it is under editing pages).

Also make sure you pay attention to the recommended image sizes -- some themes don't much care, some care a lot.  It is always safest to pay attention.

Colors need to be in valid CSS formats.  You do not need to limit yourself to "web safe" colors -- modern monitors and mobile screens do not care about "web safe" -- there is a much richer palate available.

Do pay attention to contrast.  Dark type on dark colors is hard to read.  So is pale type on white or pale colors.  Also consider what your site might look like to someone who is color blind.

Have fun, making your site unique and beautiful is rewarding.
